Mechanical Project Manager — Role Overview
As Mechanical Project Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of mechanical installations on mission-critical projects. You will lead teams, manage stakeholders, and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Mechanical Project Manager — Responsibilities
As Mechanical Project Manager, you will:
- Report to the Project Manager and act as the lead for all mechanical scope delivery.
- Establish performance/delivery criteria and liaise with client, design consultants and main contractor.
- Chair weekly reviews and ensure transparent KPI reporting.
- Direct mechanical teams (construction & engineering): set objectives, allocate resources, mentor performance, and ensure delivery to safety, quality, time and cost targets.
- Champion safety and quality; approve QA/QC plans, RAMS, and permit regimes; enforce “Right First Time” requirements.
- Collaborate with planner to develop a constructible schedule; monitor progress/WBS; manage variations and valuations with QS; support recovery plans when required.
- Establish budgets, approve procurement strategies, track costs/revenue, variations and valuations; lead weekly commercial reviews and change control.
- Review IFC/design, resolve RFIs; ensure builders’ works and setting-out are complete; maintain as-builts and O&M deliverables.
- Plan labour, materials and subcontractors; align procurement and logistics to programme; track long-leads and goods-receipting.
- Issue daily/weekly reports (progress, risks, labour projections, safety stats); maintain photographic diary and evidence for QA/EHS and commercial entitlement.
- Oversee installation, testing and integration of mechanical systems.
- Coordinate with CSA/Electrical/ICT; ensure route access, containment, penetrations, fire-stopping and systems interfaces (BMS/SCADA) are ready.
- Plan FAT/SAT, pre-functional tests, energisation steps, and IST; manage punch/snags close-out and readiness for handover.
- Lead final account settlement and complete Safety File, QA File and project documentation with the project team.
- Implement BIM collaboration in an ISO 19650-aligned Common Data Environment (CDE), with model-based coordination and disciplined information management.
- Ensure Baustellenverordnung (SiGe-Plan, coordination), VOB/HOAI contractual frameworks are embedded in delivery.
Mechanical Project Manager — Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Trade background and/or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 7+ years’ experience leading large mechanical installation projects, ideally mission-critical/data centers.
- Proven programme, commercial and stakeholder management skills; fluent English
- Working knowledge of site EHS governance.
- Experience delivering projects to EN 50600 and familiarity with EU EED/EnEfG obligations for data centers.
- Hands-on BIM/CDE (ISO 19650) workflows and 4D planning integration.
- Knowledge of VOB/B and HOAI phases.
- Strong negotiation skills and supply-chain resilience planning for long-lead equipment.
- Support EnEfG obligations (PUE targets, renewable sourcing share, waste heat reuse ERF) and EU EED reporting as required.
