Mechanical Construction Manager — Role Overview

This is a hands-on leadership role at the heart of a complex data centre build. You will own the mechanical construction stream from procurement through to handover, managing all technical, commercial, and safety deliverables while driving a multi-trade workforce to programme.

Mechanical Construction Manager — Responsibilities

• Manage all HVAC and mechanical construction deliverables from handover through to final account, ensuring compliance with project specifications, programme, and safety criteria
• Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and all technical documentation for construction activities
• Sequence pipework installation with the project team to achieve scheduled dates
• Validate project commercially at handover from estimating, then lead full technical procurement of equipment, specialist subcontractors, and suppliers
• Document and cost changes to work scope; prepare monthly valuations and manage final account negotiations
• Drive the 2-week look-ahead schedule in conjunction with project leadership
• Manage labour requirements and resource levels to maintain programme compliance
• Ensure high-quality workmanship and direct management of subcontractor activities
• Notify all variations and delays promptly to project management
• Coordinate delivery, inspection, and secure storage of all plant and materials to agreed specifications
• Enforce health & safety standards across all subcontractor activities; review and improve safe working methods
• Maintain exemplary site housekeeping standards
• Develop and implement company procedures with package managers
• Handle change management correctly for both cost and programme impacts

Mechanical Construction Manager — Ideal Candidate

Essential
• Relevant mechanical qualification: BEng Degree, City & Guilds Certificate, HNC/BTEC, or NVQ
• Proven experience managing mechanical construction workstreams, ideally within M&E contracting
• Strong commercial acumen with experience in procurement, valuations, and final account management
• Demonstrable capability in programme planning, labour management, and subcontractor coordination
• Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills

Desirable
• Prior experience in data centre or mission-critical environments
• Familiarity with large-scale, fast-track construction projects
