Design Engineer — Role Overview

This is a pivotal design coordination role supporting the delivery of a large-scale data centre development. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated, constructible design solutions from concept through to handover.

Design Engineer — Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Design Manager in developing and coordinating project designs from concept through construction and commissioning
  • Producing, reviewing, and coordinating design drawings, calculations, and specifications to project standards
  • Liaising with internal design teams, BIM specialists, and external consultants to deliver clash-free, coordinated designs
  • Managing the Technical Submittal (TS) process, ensuring compliance with specifications and programme deadlines
  • Responding promptly and accurately to design queries and Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Preparing and reviewing documentation and design revisions
  • Participating in design coordination meetings, workshops, and internal reviews
  • Identifying design changes and assessing impacts on cost, programme, and constructability
  • Ensuring all deliverables meet quality, health & safety, and environmental requirements
  • Preparing as-built drawings, O&M documentation, and final handover packages

Design Engineer — Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or related discipline
  • 2–5 years' experience in a design engineering role within construction, engineering consultancy, or contracting
  • Strong understanding of design coordination and construction methodologies
  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong communication and teamwork capabilities
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused approach

Desirable:

  • Experience on large-scale data centre, industrial, pharmaceutical, or commercial projects
  • Working knowledge of BIM and digital construction tools
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software
