Commissioning Manager — Role Overview
As Commissioning Manager, you will oversee all commissioning activities on site, from initial planning to final close-out. You will manage direct reports, subcontractors, and ensure adherence to project schedules and quality standards.
Commissioning Manager — Responsibilities
As Commissioning Manager, you will:
- Manage all commissioning responsibilities on site, including setup, management, and close-out of the commissioning plan.
- Manage direct reports (commissioning and testing personnel).
- Manage the Commissioning Tagging process and procedures.
- Report progress on all commissioning activities internally and externally.
- Chair weekly commissioning meetings and direct weekly commissioning activities.
- Chair daily whiteboard meetings on commissioning.
- Host weekly commissioning meetings with the General Contractor and clients, reporting on weekly progress.
- Develop the project commissioning schedule in conjunction with project planners.
- Manage 'Lock Out – Tag Out' processes and procedures.
- Manage Area Control Permits for areas under control (primarily electrical switch rooms).
- Compile all testing and commissioning documentation, verifying and signing off on results.
- Manage the project commissioning schedule in conjunction with other trades, package leads, consulting engineers, and client requirements.
- Track all testing and commissioning staff on site and ensure labour allocation Tracker sheets are issued daily.
- Manage subcontractor activities, tracking progress against schedule and staffing levels.
- Manage commissioning-related snagging, ensuring timely close-out (within 1 week).
- Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and co-ordination meetings, and handover meetings.
- Close out all project items with the support of electrical and mechanical package managers.
- Implement a weekly look-ahead, ensuring coordination with vendors and trades.
- Issue internal weekly progress reports, highlighting progress percentage complete (based on WBS codes) and any concerns.
- Maintain a weekly project photographic diary.
- Develop a strong professional working relationship with the client, client representatives, and vendors.
Commissioning Manager — Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Must be able to travel freely across the EU.
- Degree in Engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in a commissioning manager role on large-scale industrial projects or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Extensive commissioning knowledge of typical mechanical and electrical systems associated with data centres.
- Thorough understanding of building regulations and European standards, codes, and practices.
- Ability to manage and execute a full IST (Integrated System Test) and previous experience in the past is essential.
- Experience in the development of all required IST documentation and to manage the completion of same on a digital platform.
- Excellent organizational skills and be effective at prioritizing tasks to achieve project deadlines and budgets.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to report to the management team and client.
- Ability to produce detailed reports, presentations, and assignments regularly and to an extremely high standard.
- Proficient at Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to delegate successfully and to know when and who to delegate to.
- Ability to thrive in a team-working environment and have strong social skills.
- Lead, manage, and motivate the entire team.
