Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer — Role Overview
You will lead the mechanical commissioning scope across major data centre builds, directing a team of package engineers and ensuring all HVAC, process water, and critical mechanical systems meet stringent performance and compliance standards. This is a hands-on leadership position where technical expertise directly shapes project success.
Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer — Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the mechanical commissioning team, setting work scope and monitoring delivery against programme milestones
• Oversee CFCI and OFCI vendor commissioning scope, including planning and management of Factory Acceptance Testing
• Facilitate detailed design reviews and ensure all mechanical design queries are documented and escalated for approval
• Manage the commissioning programme, communicating deadlines and milestones to all stakeholders
• Attend and contribute to daily/weekly commissioning meetings with internal teams, vendors, and client representatives
• Produce and submit mechanical commissioning progress reports and technical documentation
• Coordinate with QAQC and AP departments to align commissioning activities with project objectives
• Manage creation, delivery, and approval of commissioning deliverables including test scripts and compliance statements
• Ensure receipt, review, and compliance of commissioning documentation to achieve sign-off at each Cx level
• Maintain full compliance with contract documents, EHS requirements, and data centre redundancy standards
Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer — Ideal Candidate
Essential
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical commissioning leadership roles
• Proven ability to manage customer and stakeholder relationships in multi-contractor site environments
• Strong capability to interpret and interrogate system P&IDs
• Deep technical knowledge of: HVAC systems (CRAC, CRAH, AHUs, evaporative cooling, chillers, controls); pumps and pumping systems including pressure vessels; compressors; process water systems; fire-fighting systems (pump houses and tanks)
• Solid understanding of data centre standards (ASHRAE, LEED) and redundancy requirements (N+1, 2N)
• Strong programme and deadline management skills with ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments
Desirable
• Experience testing and commissioning water treatment plants
• Integrated Systems Testing (IST) experience
• Process controls experience
• Commissioning experience with fuel oil systems
• Commissioning experience with natural gas systems
