Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer — Role Overview
You will lead electrical commissioning operations for assigned vendor packages, ensuring safe, high-quality delivery against programme targets. This role combines deep technical expertise in automation and protection systems with day-to-day site leadership and stakeholder coordination.
Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer — Responsibilities
You will:
• Manage day-to-day commissioning operations for assigned electrical vendor packages, ensuring safe, high-quality delivery to programme
• Oversee external vendors and subcontractors, monitoring scope delivery and enforcing compliance with approved documentation
• Develop and execute test strategies for SCADA/automation systems, witnessing vendor activities against test scripts and compliance statements
• Lead the commissioning tagging process and maintain accurate progress reporting for Cx management
• Chair and contribute to daily/weekly commissioning meetings with internal teams and vendors, communicating deadlines and milestone requirements
• Coordinate with QAQC and Energy Marshall departments to align quality objectives and plan onsite switching/permitting activities
• Track and obtain approval on electrical commissioning documentation including test scripts, compliance statements and validation records
Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer — Ideal Candidate
Essential
• Minimum 5 years' electrical commissioning experience in construction, ideally within data centre, pharma, industrial or commercial projects
• Proven SCADA/automation controls experience with IEC-61850, Modbus-TCP and soft PLC-based systems
• Hands-on site testing and validation of automation systems with ability to read and optimise code
• Strong understanding of MV/Goose interlocking, electrical process controls and network architecture for control systems
• Siemens Siprotec relays, Digsi files and MV switchgear knowledge
• Deep familiarity with N+1 requirements for DC back-up systems
• Experience commissioning LV/MV/HV systems including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, busway, ATS, EPMS, BMS and HVAC
• Construction safety awareness with analytical problem-solving and decisive action
Desirable
• Code writing capability in FBD, Ladder Logic or SFC
• Gas/power generation plant experience, ideally emergency back-up configuration
• Process flow development expertise
• Relevant electrical engineering qualification, building services degree or electrical trade with NVQ and equivalent experience
• Process-driven approach with focus on EHS and quality management systems
