Senior Authorised Person — Role Overview

As the Electrical Senior Authorised Person, you will take the lead electrical position on the project. You will be responsible for managing and implementing electrical safety rules across a portfolio of data centres, ensuring adherence to safe systems of work.

Senior Authorised Person — Responsibilities

As Senior Authorised Person, you will:

  • Manage any live or potentially live systems under your control.
  • Manage, audit, and enforce hazardous energy control procedures, including operational control of lock out tag out systems.
  • Identify electrical hazards and implement necessary mitigation measures.
  • Manage, monitor, and operate the access control system, approving, cancelling, and closing the Electrical Safety Permit System.
  • Implement project-specific Electrical Safety Safe Operating Procedures (ESSOWs), jurisdictional requirements, and client requirements through managing, auditing, and permitting.
  • Complete required compliance training and ensure team member competency through training and monitoring.
  • Plan and execute safe electrical energisations, isolations, and switching, including approval of requests and switching plans.
  • Escalate safety breaches or non-compliance issues to the Person in Charge of the Electrical Installation and Senior Engineer.
  • Ensure periodic inspections and audits are completed as required.
  • Review and approve electrical safety-related risk assessments and method statements.
  • Assist in electrical incident investigations, ensuring immediate notification of Accidents, Incidents, or Dangerous Occurrences.

Senior Authorised Person — Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Familiarity with arc flash risk, hazard identification, and mitigation measures, including electrical safety PPE.
  • Experience managing, auditing, and enforcing adherence to an Electrical Safety Permit System, including access control.
  • Qualified electrician with a National Craft Certificate (or equivalent) and verification by Naric.
  • Electrical award equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
  • Completion of jurisdictional training in Verification, Testing and Certification and a recognized switching course at HV/MV and LV within the last two years.
  • Conversant with jurisdictional regulations and ensuring compliance.
  • Competency in pre- and post-connection electrical testing, live dead live testing, and assessment of results.
  • Competency in electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with equipment such as main panels, ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, RCBOs, VSDs, MCCs, busbars, sub-distribution boards, and final circuits.
  • Ability to understand and work from project information such as SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, punch list procedures, and vendor manuals.
  • Experience reviewing and managing commissioning processes from Level 2B to Level 5.
  • Experience managing work and safety precautions across control boundaries.
  • Experience performing/supervising advanced cable works including phasing, testing, and identifying.
  • Experience in testing and verification of HV/ MV and LV systems.
  • 10-15 years of experience managing large installation projects and subcontractors.
  • Completion of high voltage authorized person training course in last 2 years.
  • Completion of low voltage authorized person training course in last 2 years.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety and Quality compliance.
  • Experienced in design and build.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical systems.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
