Mechanical Estimator — Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of the pre-construction function, delivering accurate mechanical estimates for complex data centre developments across Ireland and Europe. You will manage the full estimating lifecycle from quantity take-off through to final board presentation, working alongside specialist CSA and electrical estimators on bids worth hundreds of millions.
Mechanical Estimator — Responsibilities
• Prepare detailed mechanical estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
• Manage quantity take-offs and compile comprehensive pricing documents for data centre projects
• Oversee procurement pricing from Irish and European subcontractors and suppliers
• Analyse and compare subcontractor bids using advanced spreadsheet modelling to justify selections
• Present completed estimates to the Estimating Director and Board of Directors as required
• Maintain and develop the cost database to ensure competitive, accurate pricing
• Build strategic relationships with key vendors including subcontractors, suppliers, and engineers
• Collaborate closely with CSA and Electrical Estimators on integrated tender submissions
• Develop and implement quality control procedures for estimating documentation
• Mentor and train junior team members to strengthen department capability
• Monitor construction industry developments and emerging technologies affecting mechanical systems
Mechanical Estimator — Ideal Candidate
Essential:
• 4+ years' experience in a mechanical capacity within construction or engineering
• Background in estimating or quantity surveying
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Competency in at least one leading QS/BQ production software package (Buildsoft, CostX, or equivalent)
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality tender documentation and submissions
• Strong risk identification capabilities on complex projects
Desirable:
• Knowledge of FIDIC contract forms
• Previous data centre or mission-critical environment experience
• Understanding of European procurement markets and supplier networks
