Mechanical Engineer — Role Overview

This Mechanical Engineer role is critical to the successful delivery of complex mechanical systems within a large-scale data centre project. You will contribute to all phases, from design coordination to commissioning and handover, ensuring quality and compliance.

Mechanical Engineer — Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Report to the Mechanical Project Manager and support the delivery of assigned mechanical scope elements.
  • Review IFC/design drawings/specs, raise/track RFIs, support BIM coordination for construction/fabrication drawings.
  • Contribute to RAMS/method statements, implement ITPs/ITRs, maintain the Safety File and QA records.
  • Align engineering tasks with the project schedule, prepare take-offs and the Engineering Materials Report (EMR), track procurement.
  • Oversee day-to-day installation quality for HVAC/CHW/ventilation/plumbing/fire protection systems.
  • Support testing & commissioning, including pressure tests, flushing, and functional performance tests.
  • Compile and maintain technical submittals, redlines/as-builts, and O&M inputs.
  • Coordinate with CSA/Electrical/ICT subcontractors, track progress against plan and manpower.
  • Issue weekly engineering progress and risk updates, escalating unresolved constraints.

Mechanical Engineer — Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent).
  • 5–8 years’ experience on large installation projects (mission-critical/data centers advantageous).
  • Competence across HVAC/chilled water/ventilation/plumbing systems and BMS interfaces.
  • Proficiency with BIM/CAD, short‑interval planning inputs, and engineering document control.
  • Working knowledge of VDI 6022/VDI 6023, DIN EN 16798, EN 378, DIN EN 806/DIN 1988, VDI 2035, ISO 16484/VDI 3814.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience preparing EMR/take-offs and supporting modularisation/prefabrication.
  • Exposure to ISO 19650 CDE workflows and 4D planning tools.
  • German language skills and knowledge of local site practices.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and advanced digital tools (Revit, Tekla, Navisworks).
  • Experience in sustainability practices (LEED/BREEAM).
  • Knowledge of German or other European building regulations.
