Environmental Manager — Role Overview

This Environmental Manager position places you at the heart of a complex data centre construction project, reporting directly into site management with a mandate to build environmental culture, manage regulatory compliance, and deliver targeted LEED Gold certification. You'll combine technical oversight with visible site presence, working across all construction phases from method statement review through to incident investigation and stakeholder engagement.

Environmental Manager — Responsibilities

You will:

• Draft and review the Construction Environmental Management Plan, integrating client requirements with corporate sustainability goals
• Scrutinise all construction method statements, processes and procedures to identify and mitigate environmental risks
• Deliver toolbox talks and environmental training to site staff, including protocols for public engagement
• Implement spill kit provision, training programmes, and emergency response scenarios alongside H&S and Site Management
• Protect all drains and watercourse entry points, ensuring clean water discharge and taking immediate mitigating action where required
• Represent the project in client environmental inspections and meetings, driving close-out of all findings
• Maintain active site presence during medium to high-risk operations, conducting walkovers with written findings and agreed action dates
• Produce monthly progress reports tracking incidents, resolutions and interventions
• Lead incident investigations and track close-outs for environmental non-compliance
• Monitor, record and report on waste management, promoting waste stream awareness and minimisation
• Audit permits and manage the site-based complaints system
• Coordinate with the Client LEED practitioner, collecting documentary evidence and facilitating site inspections to achieve LEED Gold certification
• Drive environmental culture and progressive management, feeding lessons learned back into project processes
• Stop works immediately where bad practice is identified

Environmental Manager — Ideal Candidate

Essential

• Qualified Environmentalist (relevant degree or professional certification)
• 7 years' experience within the construction sector
• Demonstrable background in site supervision
• Proven experience on High-Tech, Industrial, pharmaceutical or data centre projects

Desirable

• LEED accreditation or demonstrable experience coordinating LEED certification processes
• Experience working in Nordic or European regulatory environments
• Familiarity with watercourse protection and discharge management
