Electrical Engineer — Role Overview

This Electrical Engineer role is crucial for managing electrical systems and supporting engineering requirements on project sites. The successful candidate will liaise with key stakeholders, oversee coordination processes, and ensure compliance with project specifications.

Electrical Engineer — Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer, you will:

  • Manage electrical systems within your control.
  • Support engineering requirements by managing and liaising with key project stakeholders (client design team, main contractor, suppliers, sub-contractors, etc.).
  • Familiarise yourself with design/IFC specifications and drawings to fully understand the scope of project works.
  • Oversee the coordination process to transform design information into full installation drawings by BIM personnel, ensuring spec compliance and schedule priority. This includes generating/managing Requests for Information (RFI) and Technical Queries.
  • Manage site safety in conjunction with the Project Manager and Safety Advisor, including setting up, managing, and closing out the safety file.
  • Manage site QA in conjunction with the QA Manager, including set up, management and close out of file.
  • Manage the project schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager, consulting Engineer and client requirements, ensuring engineering activities do not impact procurement.
  • Manage all aspects associated with your package including the electrical team, subcontractors, material deliveries and goods receipting, plant and equipment, variations, and valuations.
  • Manage all day-to-day site operations.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed closely.
  • Manage subcontractor activities, tracking progress against schedule and manpower levels, ensuring adequate information flow and weekly meetings are logged.
  • Ensure works are installed according to project specifications and the project QA plan.
  • Assist the Installation Package team to manage quality needs for the project on site, ensuring compliance with relevant standards/codes and specifications. This includes all site activities associated with validation and handover to the client. Manage the Construction Work Packs process from development, implementation and handover.
  • Manage the "In Progress" snagging system, ensuring supervisors return weekly punch lists and distribute snags to subcontractors.
  • Issue direct labour hours and subcontractor hours to the time administrator.
  • Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and coordination meetings, and handover meetings.
  • Close out all project deliverables including Final Account, O & M Manuals, Punch List, Safety File, QA File, Material and Plant re-locations, and Project Plan, with the support of the site project manager and your project team.
  • Issue weekly cost reports, including all orders placed, materials expected, and labour levels.
  • Issue internal weekly progress reports rolled up from project supervisors' reports, highlighting progress percentage complete based on WBS codes and any concerns. Highlight any risk elements within control.
  • Issue external weekly progress reports to the project manager, highlighting areas not available, delays, shortage of design, third-party hold ups, and percentage complete.
  • Manage and undertake technical submittals and approvals.
  • Schedule material deliveries to correspond with the project schedule and track deliveries. Manage material procurement using the Engineering Materials Report (EMR) by producing material take offs identifying lead in periods and field need rates.
  • Maintain a weekly project photographic diary.
  • Prepare Sub-contract and Supplier Tender Packages in conjunction with Project QS.
  • Assess Sub-contract and Supplier Tender returns for technical compliance with design intent specifications.
  • Evaluate and promote the use of new engineering practices and processes to enhance delivery time of the project.
  • Manage BIM priorities i.e. support team to develop modular concepts, Typical fabrication details and Isometrics generation and to release for construction. Validation of materials/assets within the model are also to be verified for construction. Change management is a critical process to be understood and controlled.
  • Support and coach all junior engineers assigned to the project team.

Electrical Engineer — Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5+ years’ experience working with a recognised Mechanical/Electrical contractor
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in use of systems software related to Engineering functions
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Familiarity with Project / Primavera planning software and CAD/BIM process
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritize
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of modularisation (Off-Site fabrication)
  • Ability to manage own time and be pro-active
