Scope of the Role:

The EHS Campus Lead will be responsible for managing a multi-functional project that spans beyond a single build site, encompassing a complex, multi-site construction environment. This includes simultaneous construction zones across a large campus, integrated with live commissioning environments and support facilities such as security infrastructure, campus boundaries, multiple welfare stations, and a traffic system—all coordinated by a multi-disciplinary EHS team.  The EHS campus lead’s duties will also include the monitoring and auditing of 3rd party contractors that are not contracted directly however as part of local statutory requirements Our Client must oversee their works.  The EHS Campus Lead is responsible for leading standards of environmental protection and health and safety within the campus at both an organizational and individual employee level. Reporting to the Business Unit-EHS Lead, the role supports a team of health and safety professionals including EHS Leads, EHS Advisors, and other members of the project-level EHS teams such as environmental engineers, nurses, paramedics, clerks, and possibly junior EHS staff or graduates. The success of the EHS Campus Lead lies in close liaison with the Divisional Business Unit Managers, and Project Managers. Furthermore, process-based liaison with the BU Document Controllers, Procurement Managers, and Commercial & Estimation teams for critical processes such as process review & vendor engagement is key. This person will work to ensure that Our Client delivers standards of excellence through both proactive and reactive engagement, ensuring best-in-class delivery, including standards and expectations, and supporting the delivery of business unit-wide EHS campaigns, programs, and initiatives. Full Time presence on the campus is required. The ability to positively influence the campus and project leadership teams in the support of and drive for world-class EHS standards and behaviours is a key attribute.  The EHS Campus Lead will be required to work hand in hand with the client, other GC’s, owner furnished vendors & all Our Client stakeholders ensuring that Our Client, Client, and industry best practices are implemented and maintained.

EHS Campus Lead — Responsibilities

• Full Time Presence on the campus at all times.
• Provide 'hands-on' help, support, and assistance to the campus.
• Lead a team of EHS Leads & Advisors on the campus.
• Liaise with the client in a timely and professional manner, including responses to queries, promotion of best practices, closeout of incidents and NCRs, and participation in client-based campaigns and requests.
• Ensure that all incident reports, NCRs, SIPs, and action plans are reviewed, scrutinized, and vetted by the project senior management team prior to issuing.
• Be a timekeeper for all critical reporting, including incidents, KPI reports, audits, action plans & sustainability reporting, maintain a process of “in time in full” for all reporting.
• Ensure early engagement with all new stakeholders to facilitate the success of project setup is of the highest standard, this includes new staff, transfers & the introductory programs of engaging new sub-contractors onto the project.
• Set up weekly meetings and audits with 3rd party stakeholders and engage with them on a continuous basis to ensure they are complaint with site and local EHS requirements.
• Be able to work with a high number of sub-contractors in a fast-paced environment ensuring adherence to compliance obligations.
• Work closely with the PQQ/Procurement teams to ensure that all possible supply chain partners are adequately reviewed within a reasonable timeframe.
• Develop and maintain strong networks throughout the campus, communicating widely and appropriately to build a positive EHS culture.
• Set Audit Targets, review adherence to set targets and the quality of the completed audits on a monthly basis.
• Ensure that Our Client’s SOR program is fully implemented & monitored throughout the lifecycle of the campus.
• Conduct regular reviews/spot checks of all open pending EHS issues in relation to critical open actions.
• Review the campus analytics and trends at least weekly, identifying key risks and opportunities and deep diving the top significant risks to drive key risk reduction strategies.
• Validate the need for Alerts, Bulletins, and other communication on the campus & ensure the information is passed on as intended.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities to eliminate recurrence, potential, or likelihood of risks, focussing on process & Design safety improvement planning.
• Waste management strategies implemented on the campus, waste steams defined, audited and aligned with Our Client & client requirements.
• Align with client in terms of compliance obligations & implementation on the project.
• Act as a 'torchbearer' for EHS on the campus, ensure the team is constantly educated on EHS best practices & critical learnings by conducting lunch & learns, practical toolbox talks, safety campaigns & more.
• Focus on new staff and ensure that a robust engagement program is followed for all new staff, ensuring that key knowledge is shared within adequate timelines.
• Ensure that weekly & Monthly reports are prepared in time and the quality of such reports are verified prior to distribution.
• Ensure Key Training Is completed with focus on project supervision, topic such as SVSM, MSP, Black Hat Training, ME minimum training requirements & statutory competencies are key.
• Facilitate and assist all external audits conducted on the campus.
• Ensure the sustainability & environmental processes are implemented, reviewed & monitored as required.
• Drive the Small “E” to satisfy the industry & ME expectations.
• Ensure a positive culture of consequence management & discipline is implemented & constantly managed on the project.
• Review any frequent legislative changes with respect to EHS and ensure the campus is aligned.
• Promote Wellbeing and Occupational Health as part of the Bio-Psychosocial model.

EHS Campus Lead — Ideal Candidate

Key Competencies:

• Minimum 3 years in a similar EHS Campus Lead/EHS Manager or similar role in a €200m+ turnover project, 8+ years EHS occupational experience in EHS in construction/engineering/petrochemical and/or within a multinational manufacturing or Pharma/Advanced Tech environment.
• Minimum Diploma or Degree in Occupational H&S, Construction/trade/engineering background, and ideally some formal level of knowledge in environmental protection, e.g., IEMA or similar.
• Proven experience collaborating with Blue Chip clients.
• Fully authorized to work within the EU and Finland.
• Accident Investigation, Negotiation & Influencing skills, Lifting/Crane Awareness, Live Energy Training, Temporary Works Awareness, Work at Height, and Plant Awareness training.
• Experience in Microsoft packages, knowledge of EHS platforms such as Data Scope, Hammertech, BIN 360, etc.
• In-depth procedural knowledge in relation to report writing, RCA, action plans, Risk Analysis, etc.
• Excellent administrative skills including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, PDF, Flow charts, diagrams, basic schedule review, and generally technologically adept.
• Experience in managing an EHS team of at least 5+ advisors in a complex project environment.
• Experienced in working with a team of sub-ordinates, overseeing their progress, managing their conduct & promoting excellence within their team.
• Willing to be based in Finland / Helsinki either permanently or on a rotational package (2 weeks & 3 days ) or (3 weeks & 7 days)
• Willing to go “above and beyond” when required by the business (within reason).
