EHS Advisor — Role Overview
This EHS Advisor role is crucial to ensuring the safety and compliance of projects. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining EHS management systems, conducting site audits, and providing guidance on all EHS matters.
EHS Advisor — Responsibilities
As EHS Advisor, you will:
- Implement and maintain EHS management systems for all projects.
- Ensure adherence to project and Safety Management Systems.
- Ensure adherence to relevant Environmental, Health & Safety statutory provisions & legislation.
- Coordinate the development of task-specific method statements, risk assessments, and permit to work systems.
- Conduct regular site audits and inspections, document reports, and establish corrective and preventive actions.
- Attend site meetings, report on EHS risks and trends, and recommend constructive actions.
- Provide advice and guidance in all EHS matters to management, safety representatives, and employees.
- Ensure project subcontractors adhere to project EHS policies and procedures.
- Assist with accident investigation reports and ensure communication to project management.
- Align site practices with ISO 45001 OH&S management principles and local regulations (Baustellenverordnung, GefStoffV, DGUV).
EHS Advisor — Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental, Health & Safety (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years’ site EHS experience.
- Thorough knowledge of current environmental, health, and safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience implementing EHS management systems, conducting audits/inspections, delivering inductions/toolbox talks, and leading incident investigations.
- Competent in risk assessment, method statements, permit-to-work, and control of hazardous substances (COSHH/TRGS/GefStoffV).
- Strong communication and IT skills; ability to work on own initiative and influence site teams and subcontractors.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH/IOSH certification or equivalent; ISO 45001 Lead Auditor and/or ISO 14001 understanding.
- SiGeKo training or proven collaboration with SiGeKo on multi-employer construction sites.
- First Aid (incl. CPR) and Fire Warden certifications; Temporary Works awareness.
- Experience with root-cause analysis methodologies (e.g., ICAM/TapRooT) and behavioral safety programs.
- EHS experience on data center or other mission-critical projects in Germany/EU; German language proficiency is an advantage.
- Proficiency with digital EHS platforms, mobile inspections, and reporting dashboards (e.g., Power BI) within project CDEs.
