Design Manager — Role Overview
This Design Manager role is critical to the successful delivery of complex projects. You will oversee design from initial tender to completion, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
Design Manager — Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting in developing the Design Delivery Schedule.
- Developing comprehensive scope-of-work and contract document deliverables lists.
- Negotiating scope-of-work, deliverables, and prices with consulting firms.
- Procuring design from initial tender to appointment.
- Tracking internal and external design and cost issues.
- Managing distribution and production of project workload.
- Collaborating on new design issues/changes and research projects.
- Reviewing completed designs for accuracy and precision.
- Managing design document control.
- Prioritizing design tasks and assigning them to designers.
- Leading and supervising the design team.
- Tracking design deliverables to meet project milestones.
- Implementing recovery strategies for slippage.
- Participating in departmental strategic planning.
- Assisting internal and external customers technically.
- Participating in design meetings to optimize design and minimize wasted effort.
- Liaising with clients, insurance companies, consultants, and architects.
Design Manager — Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in the Construction industry.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Project management experience across all design phases (design fees time / cost management).
- Experience managing small teams.
- Experience working in a BIM environment.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and Organisational skills.
- Pride in the quality and presentation of work.
Desirable:
- Electrical engineering background.
