Design Engineer — Role Overview
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and layout of fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with LPC/NFPA/FM criteria. Your expertise will contribute to the successful delivery of detailed fire protection schematics and installation drawings.
Design Engineer — Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Designing and laying out fire protection systems to meet LPC/NFPA/FM criteria.
- Handling all aspects of sprinkler design, including hydraulic calculations, shop drawing preparation, and 3D model coordination.
- Preparing project deliverables, including 2D fire classification block plans and schematics.
- Reviewing and producing detailed fire protection schematics (Fire Sprinkler Protection, Foam enhanced Fire Protection, Gas Protection, Firewater Mist Protection, Insert Gas Protection & Special Hazard Fire Protection).
- Liaising and coordinating with client team members.
- Creating installation/construction and fabrication drawings.
- Attending technical/project meetings (in person and via Teams).
- Assisting with the preparation of technical documentation for tenders and construction.
- Closing out all project items and reviewing lessons learned.
- Collaborating with other disciplines to convert information into layout designs, drawings, and models using REVIT and AutoCAD.
- Deciphering information from various formats (sketches, BIM Execution Plans, Architectural drawings).
- Delivering LOD 200 to 400 BIM models using BIM software.
Design Engineer — Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Proficient at communication & written English.
- Competent working knowledge of applicable standards.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural/engineering plans, schematics, and design drawings.
- Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience in working on UK, Irish or European projects.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, 2D AutoCAD and Revit MEP design software such as AutoSPRINK or similar software with a minimum of four years of experience modelling these systems.
- Ability to extract BOQs and fabrication drawings from Revit.
- Responsible, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with solid organisation and time management skills.
- Experience in working on large commercial fire protection systems.
- Management of Project Schedule.
- Capable of performing Clash detection using Navisworks and Revit interference check, export Clash reports, and review clash reports.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Autodesk ACC or similar.
- Previous experience using programmes such as Revit / Autosprink / Navisworks.
- Previous similar English work environment.
- Some experience of working on a construction site.
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
- Previous experience working for large mechanical or fire protection company.
