Commissioning Manager — Role Overview
As Commissioning Manager, you will be responsible for the setup, management, and execution of the commissioning plan for the project. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful testing and commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems, adhering to safety and quality standards.
Commissioning Manager — Responsibilities
As Commissioning Manager, you will:
- Manage all commissioning responsibilities on site, including setup, management, and closeout of the commissioning plan.
- Manage direct reports, including commissioning and testing personnel.
- Manage the Commissioning Tagging process and procedures.
- Report progress on all commissioning activities internally and externally.
- Chair weekly commissioning meetings and direct weekly commissioning activities.
- Host weekly commissioning meetings with the General Contractor and clients.
- Monitor and update daily analysis reports and monthly schedules.
- Manage project scope, construction progress, resources, critical path, and milestone activities.
- Produce weekly look-ahead schedules.
- Create baseline schedules for engineering, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Produce testing and commissioning documents.
- Attend and coordinate weekly meetings with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Develop the project commissioning schedule in conjunction with project planners.
- Manage "Lock Out – Tag Out" processes and procedures.
- Manage Area Control Permits for areas under control.
- Compile all testing and commissioning documentation, verifying and signing off on results.
- Manage sub-contractor activities, tracking progress against schedule and staffing levels.
- Attend Factory Witness Testing (FWT) as required.
- Manage Main Capital Plant Vendors.
- Manage all day-to-day on-site commissioning operations.
- Manage commissioning-related snagging and ensure timely closeout.
- Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and coordination meetings, and handover meetings.
- Close out all project items with support from Electrical and Mechanical package managers.
- Implement weekly look-aheads, coordinating with vendors and trades.
- Issue internal weekly progress reports.
- Maintain a weekly project photographic diary.
- Develop strong professional relationships with clients, client representatives, and vendors.
Commissioning Manager — Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Ability to travel freely across the EU.
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) and at least 5 years’ experience in a commissioning manager role on large-scale industrial projects, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Extensive commissioning knowledge of typical Mechanical and Electrical systems associated with Data Centres.
- Thorough understanding of building regulations and European standards, codes, and practices.
- The ability to manage and execute a full IST, with previous experience.
- Experience in developing all required IST documentation and managing its completion on a digital platform.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines and budgets.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to report to the management team and client.
- Ability to produce detailed reports, presentations, and assignments to a high standard.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to manage and deal successfully with clients and contractor vendors.
- Ability to delegate successfully.
