Commissioning Engineer — Role Overview
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful commissioning of mechanical systems on a large-scale project. You will coordinate with various teams, review technical documentation, and oversee testing activities to guarantee compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
Commissioning Engineer — Responsibilities
As Commissioning Engineer, you will:
- Actively participate in the development of commissioning activities within the project schedule.
- Review IFC design documents and produce risk/opportunity reports.
- Develop and coordinate a commissioning tracking schedule for all mechanical systems, integrating with electrical equipment.
- Attend coordination, design, integration, and discipline meetings to contribute to commissioning and testing activities.
- Attend Factory Witness Tests as required.
- Chair/co-chair weekly commissioning management meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
- Review and comment on technical submissions, RFIs, and vendor testing scripts.
- Review and comment on commissioning-related RAMS.
- Review test packs to ensure compliance with design criteria, employer's requirements, and industry standards.
- Witness testing and commissioning activities in the field and report on findings.
- Monitor construction activities to identify gaps, missed opportunities, or risks to the program.
- Coordinate with the Integration Team to capture crossover in program and deliverables.
- Coordinate the commissioning process and activities by CFCI, OFCI vendors, supporting reporting from Level 0 to Level 5.
- Lead project handover/turnover packs at each level of the commissioning tagging process.
- Analyze functional performance logs and monitoring data to verify system performance.
- Counter-sign testing and commissioning certifications.
- Carry out QA/QC inspections on-site and at vendor factories as requested.
Commissioning Engineer — Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in Engineering.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer role on large-scale industrial projects.
- A thorough understanding of building regulations and European standards, codes, and practices.
- The ability to manage and execute a full IST and previous experience in the past is essential.
- Experience in the development of all required IST documentation and to manage the completion of same on a digital platform.
- Excellent organisational skills and be effective at prioritising tasks to achieve project deadlines and budgets.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to report to the management team and client.
- Ability to produce detailed reports, presentations, and assignments regularly and to an extremely high standard.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Acrobat.
- The ability to manage and deal successfully with all client and contractor vendors to ensure specifications are adhered to and all plant/equipment is commissioned on time and in line with the tagging /commissioning process.
- The ability to delegate successfully and to know when and who to delegate to.
- The ability to thrive in a team-working environment and have strong social skills.
