Authorised Person — Role Overview
This Authorised Person internship is crucial for ensuring electrical safety and compliance during the commissioning phase of complex projects. You will contribute to maintaining safe working practices and the integrity of electrical systems under the guidance of senior personnel.
Authorised Person — Responsibilities
As an Authorised Person Intern, you will:
• Become familiar with and enforce relevant SOPs, including Control of Hazardous Energies and Operating & Energisation Procedures.
• Adhere to Permit to Work and Lock-Out Tag-Out Procedures.
• Review and understand Sub-Contractor COHE and RAMS.
• Ensure works comply with client directives.
• Support operational control of LOTO systems and safe switching during commissioning.
• Ensure warning signs are in place and checked.
• Report electrical incidents to SAP and Energy Marshall.
• Ensure segregation of hazardous areas and correct PPE use.
• Identify hazards and implement mitigation measures.
• Assist Senior Authorised Persons with internal audits.
• Authorise Energisation and Isolation Requests (nominated voltage range).
• Follow instructions from the Senior Authorised Person.
Authorised Person — Ideal Candidate
• Qualified electrician with National Craft Certificate (or equivalent).
• Suitable electrical award, equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
• Understanding of project drawings (SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics).
• Understanding of EN and local code Regulations.
• Conversant with local jurisdictional electrical regulations.
• Experience in Verification, Testing and Certification (where required).
• Experience inspecting, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems and switchgear.
• Knowledge of commissioning duties (MCC's, VSD's, distribution panels, motors, lighting).
• Understanding of project documentation (Punchlist Procedure, As Built Procedure, Vendor Manuals).
• Experience performing testing (Insulation Resistance, Point to Point, grounding).
• Ability to perform Live Dead Live testing.
• Experience performing panel inspections and completing ‘Pre Energisation Checklists’.
• Execution of switching schedules/notes post approval from the SAP and Energy Marshall.
• Experience performing safe energisations, isolations and functional switching.
• Familiarity with HV/MV Infrastructure projects, DC / DNO / IDNO / Power Generation (if being appointed as an Authorised Person for MV, be familiar with LV infrastructure and equipment if being nominated as an Authorised Person for LV).
• Experience managing work and safety precautions across control boundaries.
• Experience performing / supervising advance cable works including phasing, testing, identifying & spiking.
