Authorised Person — Role Overview
This internship provides practical experience in electrical safety and commissioning under the guidance of senior engineers. You will contribute to maintaining safe working practices and ensuring compliance with electrical regulations on project sites.
Authorised Person — Responsibilities
As an Authorised Person Intern, you will:
- Become familiar with and enforce relevant safety procedures, including Control of Hazardous Energies.
- Understand and adhere to Permit to Work and Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures.
- Review and approve subcontractor electrical RAMS.
- Ensure all works are conducted according to client directives.
- Support operational control of LOTO systems and safe switching during commissioning.
- Ensure warning signs are in place and checked regularly.
- Report electrical incidents to SAP and Energy Marshall.
- Assist in electrical incident investigations.
- Perform panel inspections and complete pre-energisation checklists.
Authorised Person — Ideal Candidate
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified electrician with a National Craft Certificate (or equivalent) verified by Naric.
- Electrical award equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
- Understanding of SLDs, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Understanding of EN and local code regulations.
- Familiarity with local jurisdictional electrical regulations.
- Experience inspecting, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems and switchgear.
- Knowledge of testing equipment and procedures (insulation resistance, point to point, grounding).
- Experience performing Live Dead Live testing.
- Minimum of three years of experience working on MV systems (if being appointed as an MV Authorised Person).
Desirable Requirements:
- Completed a recognized course in Verification, Testing and Certification (where required by jurisdiction).
- Completed a recognized MV/HV switching course (if being appointed as an MV Authorised Person).
- Experience managing work and safety precautions across control boundaries.
- Experience performing or supervising advance cable works (phasing, testing, identifying & spiking).
