Authorised Person — Role Overview

This Authorised Person internship provides practical experience in electrical safety and operational control during the commissioning phase of major construction projects. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with electrical regulations.

Authorised Person — Responsibilities

As an Authorised Person Intern, you will:

  • Become familiar with, comply with, and enforce relevant SOPs, including Control of Hazardous Energies and Operating & Energisation Procedures.
  • Adhere to Permit to Work and Lock-Out Tag-Out Procedures.
  • Review and understand Sub-Contractor COHE.
  • Review and approve Sub-Contractor Electrical RAMS.
  • Ensure works are conducted according to client directives.
  • Maintain operational control of LOTO systems and safe switching during commissioning.
  • Ensure warning signs are in place and checked.
  • Report electrical incidents.
  • Ensure segregation of hazardous areas and proper use of Electrical PPE.
  • Complete required training.
  • Identify hazards and implement mitigation measures.
  • Secure areas under permit control.
  • Assist with internal audits.
  • Become conversant with Arc flash mitigation.
  • Authorise Energisation and Isolation Requests.
  • Follow instructions of the Senior Authorised Person.

Authorised Person — Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Qualified electrician with National Craft Certificate (or equivalent) verified by Naric.
  • Electrical award equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
  • Understand and interpret project drawings (SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics).
  • Understanding of EN and local code Regulations.
  • Conversant with latest local jurisdictional electrical regulations.
  • Experience with Verification, Testing and Certification (where required by jurisdiction).
  • Experience with inspecting, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems, power circuits, and switchgear.
  • Knowledge of commissioning duties including MCC's, VSD's, distribution panels, motors, lighting, and small power circuits.
  • Full understanding of policies and work methods for commissioning electrical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret project documentation (Punchlist Procedure, As Built Procedure, Vendor Manuals).
  • Experience with testing (Insulation Resistance, Point to Point, grounding).
  • Ability to perform Live Dead Live testing.
  • Experience with panel inspections and Pre Energisation Checklists.
  • Experience with safe energisations, isolations and functional switching.
  • Familiarity with HV/MV Infrastructure projects, DC / DNO / IDNO / Power Generation (if being appointed as an Authorised Person for MV, be familiar with LV infrastructure and equipment if being nominated as an Authorised Person for LV)
  • Experience managing work and safety precautions across control boundaries.
  • Experience performing / supervising advance cable works including phasing, testing, identifying & spiking.

Communication/Reporting:

  • Site management of the "In Progress" snagging system.
  • Report any electrical events to SAP.
  • Issue internal weekly progress report to the SAP.
  • Ensure timely, clear communication to SAP and CxA regarding switching operations.
