Authorised Person — Role Overview
This Authorised Person internship provides practical experience in electrical safety and commissioning. You'll contribute to the safe energization and isolation of electrical systems under the guidance of senior personnel.
Authorised Person — Responsibilities
As an Authorised Person intern, you will:
- Become familiar with and enforce relevant SOPs, including Control of Hazardous Energies Procedure and Operating and Energisation Procedures.
- Adhere to Permit to Work and Lock-Out Tag-Out Procedures.
- Review and approve Sub-Contractor Electrical RAMS.
- Ensure works are conducted in accordance with client directives.
- Support operational control of LOTO systems and safe switching during commissioning.
- Ensure warning signs are in place and checked.
- Report electrical incidents to SAP and Energy Marshall.
- Assist in internal audits, such as Self-Assessment COHE Audit and inspection of temporary electrics.
- Authorise Energisation and Isolation Requests once criteria are met.
- Follow the instruction of the Senior Authorised Person.
Authorised Person — Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Qualified electrician with National Craft Certificate (or equivalent).
- Electrical award equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
- Ability to interpret project drawings (SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics).
- Understanding of EN and local code Regulations.
- Familiarity with local jurisdictional electrical regulations.
- Experience with verification, testing, and certification (where required).
- Ability to inspect, commission, and troubleshoot control systems and power circuits.
- Experience with MCCs, VSDs, distribution panels, motors, lighting, and small power circuits.
- Knowledge of testing methods (Insulation Resistance, Point to Point, grounding).
- Ability to perform Live Dead Live testing.
- Experience with panel inspections and Pre Energisation Checklists.
- Experience with safe energisations, isolations, and functional switching.
- Familiarity with HV/MV Infrastructure projects, DC / DNO / IDNO / Power Generation (If being appointed as an Authorised Person for MV, be familiar with LV infrastructure and equipment if being nominated as an Authorised Person for LV)
- Experience managing work and safety precautions across control boundaries.
- Experience performing / supervising advance cable works including phasing, testing, identifying & spiking (Spiking is a specialist skill requiring a licence in many jurisdictions, it may not be required as essential but experience of, and being conversant with the process is essential)
