Appointed Person — Role Overview

This internship provides practical experience in electrical safety and commissioning within a large-scale project environment. You will contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with electrical regulations.

Appointed Person — Responsibilities

As an Appointed Person Intern, you will:
• Become familiar with and enforce relevant SOPs, including Control of Hazardous Energies and Operating & Energisation Procedures.
• Adhere to Permit to Work and Lock-Out Tag-Out Procedures.
• Understand and apply the site-specific Electrical Safe System of Work (ESSOW).
• Review and approve Sub-Contractor Electrical RAMS.
• Ensure all works are conducted in accordance with client directives.
• Support the operational control of LOTO systems and safe switching during commissioning.
• Ensure warning signs are in place and regularly checked.
• Report electrical incidents to SAP and Energy Marshall.
• Assist Senior Authorised Persons with internal audits.
• Authorise Energisation and Isolation Requests within your nominated voltage range, following instructions from the Senior Authorised Person.

Appointed Person — Ideal Candidate

• Qualified electrician with a National Craft Certificate or equivalent.
• Electrical award equivalent to Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications.
• Understanding of project drawings (SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics).
• Understanding of EN and local code Regulations.
• Conversant with latest local jurisdictional electrical regulations.
• Experience in inspecting, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems and power circuits.
• Knowledge of testing procedures (Insulation Resistance, Point to Point, grounding).
• Familiarity with Live Dead Live testing.
• Experience with panel inspections and Pre Energisation Checklists.
• Familiarity with switching schedules/notes.
• Experience with safe energisations, isolations, and functional switching.
• MV/HV switching course completion (if being appointed as an MV Authorised Person).
• Minimum of three years' experience working on MV systems (if being appointed as an MV Authorised Person).
• Familiarity with HV/MV Infrastructure projects, DC / DNO / IDNO / Power Generation (if being appointed as an Authorised Person for MV).
• Experience managing work and safety precautions across control boundaries.
• Experience performing / supervising advance cable works.
